Malmö Preventive Medicine
General Information:
Prospective, observational population-based study with a baseline examination
1974-1991 (n = 33444), and follow up by registers and a re-examination
2002-2005. Initial limited interaction against hypertension hyperlipidemia, and
high alcohol consumption. Main focus on cardiovascular disease, diabetes and
cancer.

Role in National Biobanking programme:
- Coordinates the work package on optimisation and quality control of DNA
extraction (WP 4.1) methods from whole blood, serum, paraffin blocks etc.
- Performs an improvement on the biobank infrastructure by a) systematic DNA
extraction and arraying of all samples b)implements a formal quality control
system c) provides data on usefulness of samples such as endpoints and quality
documentation to the National Biobanking programme joint database.
- Delivers samples for epidemiological research. A complete listing of
samples delivered during 2002 will be posted here soon.
